Brothers and Sisters,

The Sunday Morning Church of ATTENTION

Easter a day of Resurrection of ones attention.

Who else hopes there will be a chocolate rabbit to eat the ears off? Or a Tiffany egg to be inherited and sell to pay off the mortgage?

Easter is a holiday that has not only lost a great deal of its sacredness but commercially its dropped behind Valentines Day, Mothers Day, Halloween, Labor Day, 4th of July, now ranking about even with Presidents Day and Fathers Day.

What happened?

When I was in the Gurdjieff work, in the 1970’s, our teacher helped us create Reverence with a special Seder. There were unique foods, sacred music and prayer. We worked to create a day of blessing.

In the 1980’s & 90’s everyone’s best friend, Brother Viktor Fiedeles’ Day of Easter Resurrection, with formal invitations, art, music, a parade, holding hands in prayer and Cross Country Croquet celebrated rebirth on Easter Sunday. We created a feeling of being blessed by our work.

In both situations I loved serving. I loved the preparation, the simple act of chopping veggies, setting the tables or roasting a turkey as an ending to Lent. I loved the dressing up, wearing an Easter Bonnet, winning the Croquet Tourney, finding the Eggs, eating the ears off the Chocolate Rabbit, even indulging on the wine was special.

Has it become mainstream to lose the belief in rebirth, resurrection, recreation, and spring only towards rewards?

What of the joy of coming together, feeling something extraordinary may, is, was, or will happen? Making our daily bread holy?

What of the sense that something sacred and hidden maybe found?

Easter is a belief in hope that seeds will grow and bloom. That the toil in the garden of our lives and minds will become the fruit that sustains, and enlivens us. This hope is for sharing. It only comes once a year don’t miss it!

So for our sake and Gods sake use our imagination, enjoy Easter, pay attention as it will become our future.

A very Happy Easter and a resurrection of all your hopes and dreams.
