Is stress necessary in our lives?
Stress is what causes our hearts to beat, and without that drummer we’re a goner.
What is stress? The Dictionary defines stress as both a noun and a verb. A state where something is emphasized as in music or a syllable in speech, or in physics an applied force that tends to strain or deform a body or the internal resistance to an applied force. Those definitions are largely neutral, that is have no negative connotations?
Stressed is desserts spelled backwards, so maybe we have stress understood backwards.
Stress is a force related to gravity, but psychologically it is defined as a mentally or emotionally disruptive or upsetting condition occurring in response to adverse external influences and capable of affecting physical health, usually characterized by increased heart rate, a rise in blood pressure, muscular tension, irritability, and depression.
That is the stress we all have been told, assigned or diagnosis as BAD. Stress may be the cause of illnesses, especially how we react or respond to stress that is the danger.
Here are three proven methods of dealing with stress.
1) EFT-Emotional Freedom Taping.
This technique is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine and uses the body’s natural energy tracts. Negative stress, or dis-ease is based upon energy becoming fixed along those tracts. Like a traffic jam. With the energy stuck we feel discomfort that can range from mild unease to major disease, with the natural energy of the body, what I call the FREE-WAY of life broken down.
These breakdowns, snarls, or barriers can be reopened in a simple 3 part method.
- Acknowledging the stressful block.
- Affirm YOUR healthy belief.
- Tap out the jams.

2) WHS
This is a visualization technique I learned in college and taught in classes and seminars over the last almost 40 years. It was one of the ways I became a leading money winner on the senior professional bowling tour. Again it is about freeing your body of stress and focusing on what you want. Your desires can vary from a perfect golf swing to simple relaxation and stress freedom. It also can be remembered in 3 parts-
- Sit in a comfortable upright position-feet flat on the floor, back straight as if you were a puppet hung by a string from head to spine.
- Next begin relaxing with a ‘backward flowing motion from your feet to the tip of your head. Using your breath exhale any tension from your feet, then ankles, then knees, hips, abdomen, chest, neck and finally your head, while with eyes closed become aware of phosphene images, often colored and shaped like microscopic single celled creatures appear behind closed eyes..
- Finally allow, with your intent-that is your desired state to form a picture in your mind. See yourself calm and relaxed while presenting a marketing plan to your client or as in my bowling long strings of strikes.
Using a disciplined relaxation program using breath, observing the natural phosphene images and skillfully manipulating them to see the perfect golf swing or stress freedom allows that state to occur.
3) Stress Free Zone designation
And my own creation of stress freedom is by designation. Signs signs everywhere signs, was a popular song of the 70’s. We have been trained to stop at a red octagon with S T O P. To stay off the G R A S S, not park, go slow. So I developed a simple glue on sign that goes along with a two page instruction, reasoning and fun story on being in the ZONE> The STRESS FREE ZONE.
Cause after all, since stress is natural and how we stay alive with each beat of our heart, it is only how we and those around us react to stress, that a reminder, an official designation can turn life from STRESSED into an appetizing, enjoyable, relaxed Stress Free Zone.
So enjoy, you are the natural DESSERTS of your life. Life is desserts.
